COPYRIGHT IMPLICATIONS FOR USING SOCIAL MEDIA

People using social media need to remember that material on the internet is protected my copyright.
It is illegal to copy other people's work and to publish it on the internet.

The important thing to remember is to link to other people's work rather than copy it. If you don't copy then you can't commit copyright infringement. It is best to ask permission before using someone else's work. Sometimes when you look to copy a picture a warning will come up that the material is not free and you need permission to use it.

If something has no commercial value it is often available to copy but if it is commercially valuable and in particular if it involves someones own creative style and makes up part of their livelihood then it is wrong to copy it both legally and morally.

If you want to include a piece of writing, artwork, photo etc then the correct thing to do is to acknowledge the artist who originally created the work. Then you are not stealing anything that was not created by you and the creative artist gets to have their piece recognized as belonging to them.

I completely agree with this post. No excuse for bad manners in real life or on social media.
